To understand just why KOB is not your usual Chartered Accountancy firm you really need to know more about Kevin O’Brien … his background, his experience and his unique ability to provide the level of sound financial and commercial support that can make a genuine difference to the future success of both individuals and businesses.
Oldham born Kevin O’Brien was educated at Oldham Hulme Grammar School , has an accountancy degree and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985 with Manchester City centre practice . He rose through the ranks to become an equity partner in 1992. He became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 1995, which means that he now brings over 30-years of invaluable experience gained within leading accountancy practices as well as working in a variety of businesses of all sizes from small owner managed businesses to international global trading organisations.
He joined the highly regarded Chartered Accountants DTE Business Advisers Limited as a partner in 2006 , who at the time were one of the Top 30 ICAEW Chartered Accountancy practices in the country. In 2016 he left DTE and founded KOB . He has also worked with a number of different organisations providing an outsourced solution to a wide variety of commercial businesses where he has operated as financial director.
So you can appreciate that not only does Kevin O’Brien understand accountancy and financial management … he also understands business!
One of the specialist areas that he has worked in is the medical sector, where over the years he operated in roles that range from accountancy service provider, financial manager, business adviser and even company director. Consequently, he has a knowledge of this business that is probably second-to- none. Kevin’s medical sector experience extends from assisting individual General Practitioners and NHS Consultants to supporting multi-disciplinary medical centres, clinics, and independent Out of Hours organisations.
In addition, Kevin has also acted as company accountant for a number of businesses across many other sectors where he has been responsible for corporate financial planning including detailed financial forecasts and business plans, multi-million pound contract negotiations and tenders for NHS contracts, new business start-ups and support and restructuring.
As you will have noted, KOB is not your usual Chartered Accountants and that is clearly apparent in the way we operate.
For instance while clients are always very welcome to visit our Rochdale offices, we are equally happy to travel to a client’s base so that they don’t have to take valuable time away from running their own business.
Another example of this difference is that we are not restricted to a rigid by the hour/rate fee structure . Instead of operating on an hourly time basis we will agree a fee that is realistic for the job to be done, and that works out to be excellent value, extremely competitive and financially attractive for our clients. It also serves to promote mutually beneficial long-term relationships. We agree a fee at the beginning of our engagement, which can be paid monthly or annually to suit.
However, don’t think that ‘reduced-price’ means a reduction in standards. As a Chartered Accountant Kevin O’Brien complies with the ICAEW Practice Assurance Standards and regularly attends a significant number of qualifying CPD course each year to keep abreast of changes.
If you prefer to deal with one of the best Chartered Accountants in the region who is not only extremely experienced in all types and size of businesses, but who also adopts a refreshing down to earth approach then you really should be speaking to Kevin O’Brien.
A Chartered Accountant who is also a businessman.
